New Malaysian Coins To Be Distributed This Jan 16


Bank Negara Malaysia (BNM) through a media statement told, the new coins which are yellow and silver would also facilitate the public on knowing different denomination.

“The side and size design of the coins which varies would ease the blind disability group in identifying and differentiating the coins.

“These new coins are made by using the latest advanced technology in coin making and has better safety characteristics to avoid counterfeit.

“The new metal used to make these coins are from a much higher quality type and last longer,” said the statement today.

According to the statement, the new Malaysian coin series design is based on the Malaysian Uniqueness theme inspired by the country’s culture and heritage.

The statement said, the motive of the design portrays the beauty of nature, flora and fauna, and traditional handicraft art found in Malaysia.

The denomination of these new coin series are 5 cents, 10 cents, 20 cents and 50 cents. The public can obtain these new coins through their usual business transaction,” said the statement.

The statement added, these new coins will be released for distribution in phases and would be used together with the existing coins.

The statement explained, the existing coins would be removed from circulation gradually.

In accordance with that, to ensure that usage of these new coins go through a smooth transition, vendors handling cash machines are given sufficient time to alter their machines so it can accept these new coins.-mynewshub.my
